What is Meta Conversions API ?

Meta Conversions API (CAPI) allows you to send conversion data directly from your server to Meta instead of the browser. Events like Purchase, AddToCart, ViewContent, InitiateCheckout, Search and AddToWishlist are transmitted server-side. This makes you immune to ad blockers and browser restrictions.

Current challenges: iOS 14.5+ ATT restrictions, third-party cookie blocking and growing ad blocker usage make tracking with Meta Pixel alone insufficient. A significant portion of conversions can be lost, harming campaign optimization.

Our solution: Scout combines client-side SDK data (fbclid, UTM parameters, session info) with server-side webhook data (order details, user information) to send the richest dataset to Meta CAPI. Event deduplication is managed automatically.

What is Meta Conversions API (CAPI)?

Meta Conversions API is an interface that allows you to send conversion data directly from your server to Meta instead of the browser. It is immune to ad blockers, more resilient to iOS restrictions, and improves data quality when used alongside Pixel.

What is fbclid and why is it important?

fbclid is a parameter automatically appended to clicks from Meta ads. It is used to match conversions back to the ad click that generated them. Scout automatically captures the fbclid value and sends it back to Meta via CAPI.

How does event deduplication work?

When the same conversion is sent via both Pixel and CAPI, Meta may count it twice. Event deduplication solves this by assigning a unique event_id to each conversion. When Meta sees the same event_id, it only counts one. Scout manages this process automatically.

How do you track iOS 14.5+ users?

For iOS 14.5+ users who decline ATT (App Tracking Transparency), Pixel data is limited. CAPI is less affected by this restriction since it sends data from the server. Aggregated Event Measurement allows optimization with a limited number of events.

What is event match quality score?

It is a metric showing how well Meta can match data received via CAPI with its own user database. The more accurately parameters like email, phone and IP address are sent, the higher the score. Scout automatically hashes and sends these parameters.

Should Meta Pixel and CAPI be used together?

Yes, Meta recommends using both together. Pixel collects data on the client side, CAPI on the server side. Event deduplication prevents duplicate counting. This combination provides the highest data quality and match rate.

Which events are supported?

Purchase, AddToCart, ViewContent, InitiateCheckout, Search and AddToWishlist events are supported. Required parameters for each event (value, currency, content_ids etc.) are automatically populated.
